About Desowen Cream

Desowen Cream is a topical corticosteroid medication primarily used to treat various inflammatory and itchy skin conditions. Desonide 0.05% w/w (a synthetic corticosteroid). Desonide is considered a low to medium potency topical steroid.

Uses

Desowen Cream (skin care) is prescribed for the relief of inflammation, redness, and itching associated with:

• It helps reduce the thick, dry, and itchy patches.
• It can be effective in reducing the redness and scaling of psoriasis.
• This includes conditions like contact dermatitis and seborrheic dermatitis.

How it Works

Desowen Cream works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers (like prostaglandins and leukotrienes) in the body that cause inflammation, redness, and itching. It also has vasoconstrictive properties, which help reduce swelling.

How to Use

Apply a thin layer of Desowen Cream to the affected area as instructed by your doctor, usually two to three times daily. Clean and dry the affected area before application. Wash your hands after applying, unless your hands are in the affected area.

• Do not apply in larger or smaller quantities than recommended.
• Avoid covering the treated area with bandages or other occlusive coverings unless specifically instructed by your doctor, as this can increase the risk of side effects.
• Do not use it for longer than two weeks unless directed by a physician.
• Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes, or open wounds.

Side Effects

• Skin thinning/discoloration
• Stretch marks
• Acne
• Excessive hair growth
• Folliculitis (small red bumps on the skin)

Precautions

Do not use if you are allergic to Desowen Cream or any of its components. Not recommended for use if you have active bacterial, viral, or fungal skin infections, as it is not effective against them and can worsen them.

Consult your doctor. While limited human data suggest it’s probably safe during breastfeeding, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby during pregnancy. It should only be used if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk.
